Yes – he/she does, depending upon the Mayor’s calendar availability for the requested time/date.
a. Do you have to live in the Borough to have the Borough Mayor perform the ceremony? No – as long as you live in the state of Pennsylvania and the wedding license is issued in the state of Pennsylvania, the West Chester Borough Mayor can perform the ceremony.
b. Does it have to take place in the Borough? No – the ceremony does not have to take place in the Borough, as long as the Mayor is willing to travel to the wedding location.
c. Does the Borough offer any options as far as ceremony locations? Yes - Within the Municipal building, the Mayor’s office (depending on the size of the wedding party) or Council Chambers can be reserved, depending upon availability. West Chester’s Historic Courthouse can be reserved, for a fee, again depending upon availability. There are also various Park locations within the Borough limits.
d. If the West Chester Borough Mayor is NOT available, any District Justice, Common Pleas Judge, or Former Mayor can perform the ceremony.
e. Is there a fee for the West Chester Borough Mayor to perform the wedding ceremony? No – there is no payment required; however, if the couple would like to make a donation to the West Chester Fire Department, it is appreciated.
