Statement from the Borough Council President

MESSSAGE FROM THE BOROUGH COUNCIL PRESIDENT

Unfortunately, the permit for Outfest, which was scheduled to take place on October 1st in downtown West Chester, was rescinded by the Business Improvement District. While Borough Council understands the reasoning behind the cancellation, this decision was not made or influenced by Council. In light of recent news that a rally is scheduled to take place on the same date, I would like to publicly announce my support for this event. Members of Borough Council voiced their support for the LGBTQ community, and this will be an event aimed at showing that support through pride in the community. West Chester is a safe and inclusive place for all.

It has been brought to my attention that online threats are being made towards individuals and organizations. Borough Council unequivocally denounces threats of any kind towards anyone. Freedom of speech is a basic right afforded to all members of our community, whether I agree with you or not. Threats of violence and intimidation are not what our community stands for and will not be tolerated.

Sincerely,

Michael Stefano
