Energy Procurement

Since 2008 the Borough has procured an unbundled 100% wind renewable energy credit (REC) energy supply for all Borough operations, including the expanding fleet of PHEVs. Unbundled energy products consist of grid-sourced electricity as well as the environmental attributes of energy generated by a separate, U.S.-based wind or solar farm (the RECs) and is purchased on-bill from a 3rd party supplier.

Looking ahead the Borough will continue to evaluate opportunities for on-site renewable energy generation at all facilities, as well as local, off-site renewable energy procurement as progress is made towards the long-term energy goals established by Borough Council in 2017. Achieving these goals will require a holistic approach including conservation, efficiency, on-site generation, and off-site energy purchasing.
