In 2012 the Borough installed a 79kW solar array and parking canopy on the top level of the Chestnut Street Garage with funding from the PA Commonwealth Financing Authority, furthering our commitment to utilizing alternative, clean, and local sources of energy.
The array generates about 84,000 kWh of free energy annually for the garage, including the free EV charger located at the garage. Vehicles utilizing the charger are fueling up with converted sunlight!

Looking Ahead
The Borough will continue to evaluate opportunities for on-site renewable energy generation at all facilities, as well as off-site renewable energy procurement as progress is made towards the long-term energy goals established by Borough Council in 2017. Achieving these goals will require a holistic approach including conservation, efficiency, on-site generation, and off-site energy purchasing.
