Reducing Stormwater and Flooding:

  • Direct your rain gutters away from impervious surfaces - such as driveways and sidewalks - instead direct the flow to grassed areas.
  • Install a rain barrel and use the collected water for watering flowers and plants
  • Have a stream or pond on your property? Allow a buffer of native grasses and other vegetation to grow along the edge. This will filter pollutants and protect against erosion.
  • Convert low-lying areas into rain gardens planted with water tolerant plants and bushes that will help reduce runoff.

Recycling Right:

Contamination of the recycling stream is costing towns and municipalities a lot of money and renders otherwise recyclable materials unusable. Keep recycling costs down by making sure the items in your bin are recyclable.

  • Clean cardboard,
  • Aluminum beverage cans
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Clean aluminum foil and take out containers
  • Empty aerosol cans
  • Mixed paper (i.e. newspaper, junk mail, office paper, etc.)
  • Plastic containers, bottles, & jugs #1-7 (NO Styrofoam)
  • Steel food and beverage cans
  • Beverage & food cartons (i.e. milk, juice boxes, soup cartons, etc.). Do NOT to crush these cartons!

Not on the list? Keep it out of the bin. Find more information on the Borough recycling program here.
