Historical Commission

The historic commission is advisory in nature and is usually given the following kinds of responsibilities: 

  • Implement the historic preservation plan
  • Identify local historic resources that may be in jeopardy
  • Solicit gifts grants and money as appropriate for purposes of the ordinance
  • Maintain the local survey of historic resources and update as needed
  • Recommend the preservation of districts and landmarks to Council
  • Prepare information and disseminate publications on local historic resources
  • Serve as a liaison between preservation organizations both at the local level and with state and federal agencies
  • If directed by the Council, represent the community on preservation matters at the regional state and nation levels
