  1. PECO Harmony Project - Gay Street Impact

There has been some confusion generated about traffic restrictions on Gay Street as a result of PECO’s Harmony Project.  The entirety of Gay Street will not be shut down during this construction.  PECO’s subcontractors will be closing one block at a time from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday thru Friday starting on March 1st.  The first block that will be affected is the 50 block of East Gay Street.  We will be sure to keep you updated on which block is affected as the work progresses.

  6. BOROUGH BUILDING CLOSED

THE BOROUGH BUILDING WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE IN RESPONSE TO PREVENTATIVE MEASURES REGARDING COVID-19. THE BOROUGH BUILDING WILL REMAIN CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. ALL DEPARTMENTS ARE AVAILABLE BY PHONE AND VIRTUAL MEETINGS TO CONTINUE SERVING THE PUBLIC.
  7. PECO Replacing 100+ Poles

Starting Wednesday, October 14th, PECO will be replacing numerous power poles throughout the Borough.  It is anticipated that the replacement of these poles, over 100 in total, will occur over the next 4 to 6 weeks.
  8. BOROUGH STREET LIGHT ISSUES

BOROUGH RESIDENTS MAY ALREADY KNOW, WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE STREET LIGHTING AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE BOROUGH.  THE ISSUES INCLUDE LIGHTS NOT TURNING ON/OFF, FLICKERING, BRIGHTNESS OF LIGHTS, LIGHTS TURNING ON AT IRREGULAR HOURS, ETC.  THE INITIAL RESPONSE WAS TO TURN THESE NON-WORKING LIGHTS TO MANUAL FUNCTION, BUT THIS PROCESS WAS FOUND TO BE TOO EXPENSIVE TO SUSTAIN.  BOROUGH COUNCIL HAS BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUES AND THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN WORKING DILIGENTLY TO FIND A RESOLUTION TO THESE ISSUES. BULBS ARE NOT BURNING OUT, BUT RATHER THERE IS A MALFUNCTION WITH THE CONTROL SYSTEM ON THE INDIVIDUAL LIGHT POLES.  UNFORTUNATELY, NEITHER THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT NOR OUR ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR CAN TAKE IMMEDIATE CORRECTIVE MEASURES, AS THE SYSTEM REQUIRES A NEW SOFTWARE PLATFORM, THEREFORE THERE IS NO QUICK FIX.   THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT HAS IDENTIFIED A COMPANY THAT OFFERS A PRODUCT THAT IS EXPECTED TO RESOLVE THE ISSUES.  HAVING OVER 1,000 LIGHTS IN THE BOROUGH MAKES THE COST OF IMPLEMENTING THE CORRECTIVE MEASURE A VERY COSTLY ENDEAVOR.  ABOUT A DOZEN NODES HAVE BEEN RECEIVED, WHICH WILL BE INSTALLED TO CONDUCT A TEST OF THE PRODUCTS RELIABILITY.    IF SUCCESSFUL, PUBLIC WORKS INTENDS TO INCLUDE THE COST OF THE PRODUCT, ALONG WITH THE INSTALLATION COSTS, IN THE BUDGET FOR NEXT CALENDAR YEAR.  SO, A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM COULD TAKE US INTO THE SPRING OF NEXT YEAR.
